VIDEO: HOW SILVER DEFENCE FIGHTS AGAINST BACTERIA: BIOLUMINESCENCE TEST

18 May 2020

Renner Italia sanitizing coatings fight against germs and bacteria thanks to Silver Defence silver ions additives. Easy and convenient to use, Silver Defence additives can be used in every coating to stop the proliferations of bacteria on furniture, wood floorings, doors, etc.

BIOLUMINESCENCE TEST AND SANITIZING COATINGS

To detect microbiological contamination indicators (germs and bacteria), the most commonly used test is ATP determination test in bioluminescence. ATP (adenosine triphosphate) monitoring gives very quick information about the cleanliness state of surfaces. ATP absence is the confirmation that there aren’t microbes and the sanitizing process of our Silver Defence coatings with sanitizing additives is effective.

ATP INDICATOR AND SANITIZING COATINGS

Bioluminescence analysis is very common, above all in the field of water monitoring and of food, pharmaceutic and cosmetic industries. It is a reliable, qualified and precise test. But, why is it focused on adenosine triphosphate (ATP)? The answer is easy: ATP is a molecule, which is present in metabolic active cells because it ensures the necessary energy for the cellular activities. If ATP is present, there are vital cells and also germs and bacteria.  If ATP is absent, or if ATP content is extremely low, it is a matter of sanitizing/hygienizing.

HOW BIOLUMINESCENCE TEST WORKS

ATP emits luminescence if it comes in contact with luciferin/luciferase reagent. When this happens, it causes a reaction that stimulates the emission of light in a quantity, which is directly proportional to the concentration of adenosine triphosphate. Thus, the higher the presence of bacteria, the higher the luminescence that in few seconds will be registered by the bioluminometer. The unit of measurement for ATP quantification is RLU (Relative Light Unit).
