Timbers

Antique Design systems are suitable for a huge range of timbers. To choose the most appropriate system satisfying specific needs, this handbook is based on two macro-categories of timber families: rich in tannin and tannin-free woods. Tannin is an organic substance contained inside plant species.

Naturally rich in tannin woods

for tannic woods

Antique Design products can react directly with the tannin, contained inside the wood, thus creating unique shades and effects, together with a refined vintage look.

They stop the chemical reaction between the stain and the tannin. They make the colour stable, ready to be overcoated

OVERCOATING

  • To extremely enhance the antique effect of wood, the application of two coats of YS M009, with 5% of YC M403 hardener, is recommended
  • Antique Design reagents can be overcoated with water-based wood flooring Solid range products, with water-based Aquaris range products or with acrylic solvent-based products. In this last case, it is important to select only the products, preserving the natural look of the woodwork

Antique effect system
for non-tannic woods

In the case of tannin-free woods, the application of the special water-based primer AY M113 will make the wood reactive to other products of Antique Design range, simulating the behaviour of tannic woods.

ageing promoter
KG M121

To obtain a more antique look, it is possible to apply the ageing promoter KG M121. It is a liquid with a high concentration of extenders, to be diluted according to the specific needs, to obtain different shades of ageing look. It is easy to use and it can be applied directly on both the reagent and on raw wood. Unlike the conventional patinas, it does not need the application of the basecoat, thus accelerating the production processes. Thanks to its formula, it can be easily removed by scotch brite, simplifying the sanding phase. It simulates the effect of a bleached patina and can me mixed with the usual pigments to obtain endless trendy shades.

NOTES TO OBTAIN AN OPTIMAL RESULT

  • The colour results can vary according to the kind of wood, the modalities of application, the drying time of Antique Design reagents, the quantities and the applied coats of equalizer, and to its potential dilution
  • Preliminary tests are suggested to ensure the desired final result
  • Do not mix the products. To obtain different colour shades, dilute only with distilled water
